Girl Effect is advancing job opportunities for unemployed youth in Kenya, with a focus on girls and young women, through certifications and vocational training, mentorship and testing centers in the creative and digital industries.
Girl Effect works to unlock the power of girls and young people to shape the futures they want for themselves and their communities. Across Africa and Asia, the organization combines media, technology, storytelling, and community engagement to create youth-centered experiences that are trusted, relatable, and accessible. From livelihoods and digital inclusion to gender equality and sexual and reproductive health, Girl Effect partners closely with young people, governments, communities, and the private sector to co-create solutions grounded in the realities young people navigate every day. In Kenya, the organization is known for building youth-focused ecosystems that blend digital engagement, entertainment, mentorship, and community participation to drive positive social and economic change at scale.
With support from the Citi Foundation, Girl Effect Kenya is implementing Tuki-Jituma (Together We Thrive), a livelihoods initiative designed to help young people ages 15–24 build pathways into Kenya’s growing creative and digital economy. Focused particularly on adolescent girls and young women, unemployed and out-of-school youth, teenage mothers, and other vulnerable young people in Nairobi and Migori counties, the program combines practical skills training, mentorship, digital access, and entrepreneurship support to bridge the gap between learning and earning. By leveraging platforms young people already trust and use, Tuki-Jituma aims to expand economic independence, strengthen youth-led enterprises, and increase participation in the digital economy while building more inclusive and sustainable pathways to opportunity for young people across Kenya.
