This prototyping video from IDEO's 2010 Play Lab (formerly known as the ToyLab) essentially shows a would-be player the user functionality of the first version of the Elmo's Monster Maker phone App. It's a great example of how you prototyping can be done using what you have - this team filmed this video in their office and used arm motions and movements to explain functions.
